Holy shit. He’s gone. Anyways what do you even do when your team is winning with him out. I don’t blame the coaching staff especially against the stars tonight
Edit: I didn’t see the post from earlier. Apparently they’re communicating and all seems well

Pretty similar situations to his last set of scratches; on the road, Tocc can’t protect him via last change. Seattle/San Jose was a back to back but other than that same thing.
Team is on the road vs Seattle, he is scratched for the game, team wins, heads to San Jose, he’s scratched for his 2nd straight.
Team is on the road vs Nashville, he is scratched for the game, team wins, heads to Dallas, he’s scratched for his 2nd straight.
Now, I’d be surprised if the team scratched him at home on the 23rd that’s when I’ll be surprised.

In this market, there’s always going to be speculation and outrage over this kind of stuff. Overall it seems like the relationship is positive.
If Kuzmenko is serious about his NHL future, he’s going to have to adapt to Tochett’s non-negotiables.
Because every coach in the league, is going to have a very similar set of non-negotiables as Tochett does.
julesieee
No need to panic as I think Kuzy and his camp knew well ahead of time he’s probably getting scratched for this game. Hopefully he gets back i to the lineup against the Sharks at home.

We got too many players playing well right now with Kuz not playing great, I have faith he’ll be back but it’s gonna be tough.

The healthy scratches and tough love are okay for now, but there’ll be an inflection point coming soon where they’ll have to decide whether to keep him or cut their losses. I don’t think it’s ideal asset management to keep him in limbo for much longer if he’s still out of favour heading into a contract year next season. The coaching staff is rightly sticking to their principles, but they’re actively devaluing Kuzmenko as an organizational asset, which is really harsh on a guy who outperformed our wildest expectations last season.
As much as I understand Tocchet’s rationale, it’s still frustrating to see him single out a player who was one of the most valuable parts of this roster last year because he “doesn’t play the right way”. I’m not convinced the team really benefits from healthy scratching Kuzmenko for career 4th liner PDG, who hasn’t done a whole lot since his early stretch with Miller-Boeser and has far less upside.
Kuz is 7th in team scoring despite having his net-front role on PP1 taken away, having a slow start to his year, and cooling off from a ridiculously high shooting percentage last season. I don’t buy that he’s been terrible enough to warrant being healthy scratched several times.

Last time Kuz was scratched twice in a row, PDG was awful in the second game. Will see if PDG/Aman want to secure their spots tonight.
Infernoooo
I really don’t see how keeping pdg in is worth it. How is Kuz supposed to improve being scratched 3 games in a row?
HanSolo5643
It’s tough because I like Kuzmenko and think he can be a good player for us. But he has to be able to buy into Rick Tocchet’s system and what he believes in. Rick Tocchet believes in hard work and giving an honest effort and a consistent effort. So far, we have not seen that from Kuzmenko despite the opportunities. He has been given time with Pettersson and J.T. Miller and Boeser and has been on the first unit power play, and it hasn’t clicked for him.

reminder: Kuz got hit in the face with a puck.. so I’m reserving judgement on this for now. Team is playing well.

The team played an almost perfect game against a hot team in Nashville. There is no way Tocc should be adjusting the lineup. Next game he should be back though.

Yeah, we all expected this. Not a shocker. Kid will be okay, facing his first true test of adversity. He will overcome and be better for it, or he will be just another flash in the pan. Only time will tell.

No issues with this. Team is better suited to find another Hoglander type of player than having Kuz in the lineup. Especially come Playoff time.
julian7910
So bizarre to expect kuzmenko to put up defensive masterclass game after game. He has insane offensive talent and didnt look bad in any game recently, even put up some goals. How is he supposed to improve if he’s constantly being left out of the lineup?

I got downvoted in the game thread but this wasn’t surprising to me, if it works then no reason to change. Next lose I’d think he gets into the lineup

I’m okay with it. Åman played great in our last game.

He’s a goner. But a good bargaining chip!

It’s starting to get a little scary for me now. I really don’t want to lose this guy. His potential upside is huge. We need to find a way to get him into the lineup in a functional way.
Kooky_Alternative_76
I’m been watching the documentary on David Beckham and it’s interesting how fired up he got when he got benched. Hope that Kuz does the same.

He scored 2 G and had 1 game off the scoresheet. He can’t improve if he’s in the press box.

We better win tonight then. Last time he was scratched on back to back games it backfired.
N4ZZY2020
Wow. Can’t seem Milstein happy about his client being scratched two games in a row now.
smerfman2020
it’s easy to see the reasoning for the scratch, with the way the 3/4 line players are playing lately.
been a big fan if kuz when he came. I still think it would be a mistake to trade him, though. never know with this team when injuries are gonna happen/the added depth in a potential playoff run would be huge. but on the other side, he makes too much money to be sitting in the press box… tough call.
