So here’s the thing. Most things in hockey have this huge randomness on top of them. Player performance is about long term trends. It takes some time to see where someone is really going to land. This is especially true of goalies.
He’s on a tear right now, and it’s great. Team definitely needed it, really fun to watch. I have hopes, but at the end of the day Daccord has ~30 NHL games total. We’ve seen some decent highs and lows throughout those. It’s still not really possible to say what his “normal” is going to be. I can pretty safely say it’s going to be lower than what we’ve seen over the last couple weeks, his performance is unsustainably high. It’s like seeing a skater on a 200 goal pace or something, it’s great, but you know they aren’t going to get a hat trick every night.
His overall season numbers are just about back to league average (shot quality wise) after tonight I think, to give some perspective. Probably ought to temper expectations a bit and just keep seeing how things go. The arrow is pointing up, which is great and there’s reason for optimism, but remember at one point in time we saw this same thing with Jones and remember how that ultimately played out.
I hope he stays strong, I’ve had my fill of 0.880 goaltending over the last 3 seasons. It’s really nice to have it feel like a strength instead of a liability again. But let’s try not to knee-jerk too hard here, eh?
