exactly what the Pens need. They got beat up in the 1st & 2nd rounds…He can play & if you mess with the stars you're going have to pay the piper…
As a Penguins fan, I am not looking fondly at this. I understand what GMJR is trying to do here but let's get something clear here.
We won back to back cups without an enforcer, Sestito sat the entire playoffs. We don't NEED this guy to win.
The Penguins sent a message to the rest of the league tonight, but I don't think it was the right message. If we had gone with Kostin (I liked him anyway) we would have said "You will never intimidate us with your nonsense, we're going to win in spite of you." Instead, we said "We're genuinely afraid of your nonsense so we're getting a body guard."
I finally felt like the Pens were taking the appropriate steps to eliminating this kind of garbage in the game. Maybe the NHL seeing it's most marketable star being abused night in and night out would cause them to finally give harsher punishments to players who constantly pull dirty shit, instead of Sid having to resort to it himself just to stand up for himself.
But now we're back to this bullshit, because you can't trust the absolute joke that is the department of player safety to do a damned thing to help it's players. And it's not just Sid, because if this can happen to Sid, it can happen to anyone with talent.
I am gonna try and look at the bright side, give Reaves a chance here. He's a high energy guy and he plays with passion, and there's never a such thing as too much of that. But I gotta see more then just 13 points in 80 games this season. That's not Penguins hockey. We roll 4 lines and we try to tilt the ice in our favor and that requires speed AND skill on every line.
Maybe he'll surprise me, but I just don't think that this helps the team win hockey games.
Reaves a penguin… I must be dreaming! My favorite fighter currently in the NHL.
Some body laughed at me for suggesting that the Penguins would be interested in Evander Kane. I would have much rather the Penguins traded him instead of Reeves. Getting Reeves and dumping Sundqvist means it's likely that Bonino and Kunitz (possibly Cullen as well) will be resigned. It's unlikely they'd win three straight no matter what they do but sticking with old guys won't help.
The biggest mistake STL Blues management made this year is giving up our Reaver. However, your team just gained an extreme enforcer and a great team supporter. Gratz! The man is a machine.
I like the trade for the Pens, as long as Reaves can stay disciplined and not take needless penalties. Especially come off time. Sully should be able to keep him in line.
For the money and with the national head shot league we have no choice welcome Ryan Reaves
As a pens fan I'm cautiously optimistic. I know Ruftherford needed to get someone to protect Our stars but at what expense. I hope Reaves can fit in well and do the job hes paid to do without affecting Pittsburgh speed game and the just play motto
die hard pens fan here…feels like a major overpayment
Tool fan Hockey Guy? … Respect for that even though you're wearing a Preds hat lol. Ryan will be a solid acquisition if he's got some offensive skill, and he is willing to weigh in physically when needed. We don't need a Georges Laraque sequel.
we need a guy like Reaves
Love the Tool shirt, and I like this trade. Probably the fastest enforcer in the league and we only stepped back 20 picks. This will not hurt our chances, and there is still a lot of free cap space to add talent elsewhere
I'm upset because we love reaves in stlouis well see how it turns out pen fans reaves is a badass and he's funny as hell
NHL just put on notice , do not touch crosby, gonna be alot of ass kicked .GO BLUES !
Klim Kostin terminates his KHL contract Tuesday and is ready to sign. This is great for St. Louis. Trading a top enforcer for a possible top 6 winger. It also frees up room for younger guys to get in the lineup.
I don't think the Pens are close to being done yet either. I wouldn't be surprised if Rutherford makes a huge trade for a good defenseman to pair with Letang as insurance.
Reaves is a God
I'd rather have lost Steen than Reaves that was my guy and it's like a bad break up that you don't see coming. He will make us pay for the trade come game time
Welcome to the Steel City !
Not a better enforcer in the league. I hate to see him leave the Blues. I enjoyed being at the games when he would get in a fight. He will win the fights 95% of the time. The price was high for the Pens, but not as high as most fans think.
I've been listening to people bitch about the Pens trading down to get Reaves and I can't figure out what they don't like. A fellow Pens fan was trying to make a comparison about how the Pens don't need another Sesito on the team, so I had to end the conversation right there. Reaves may be a true enforcer but he can also contribute on a 4th line for the Pens. Reaves has been working on his overall play over the past few years and has played 80 games 2 of the last 3 seasons (in 2015-16 he played 64) whereas Sesito played 17 games in 2 seasons with the Pens.
Being a Pens fan, I am excited to welcome Reaves to the team, at LAST we get an enforcer on this team…I don't want us to become the new Boston Bruins type of bully team, but it's nice to have somebody on this team that will actually protect the star players from danger, especially Crosby, but Malkin over the years has really shown everybody that he can protect himself too. It's about time we have somebody like this
As a Pens fan, I think it was a good move. I'm tired of seeing Crosby getting abused
This draft was pretty wierd
Originally… I was mad we traded Reaves… when I remember Kostin was still available I started getting a smiley face….
Pens got their guy comfortably at 51. Sundqvist was a bust and we got a character guy we wanted. I'm very happy.
I am a blues fan and I am really going to miss reaves. Pens did great in acquiring him. He is not as bad of an offensive player that people make him out to be. His presence on the ice also eliminates any threat to players because of his hits and his ability to go toe to toe with anyone. Also he was the nicest guy off the ice. He would stay after practices at the mall/rink and would sign autographs for everyone. Truly will be missed by stl, be appreciative pens lol
Every Blues fan hates this trade. And you Pens fans complaining, this is a 4th line player that is a true enforcer, that also has the work ethic of a top six forward.
Not to mention he is universally loved in the locker room and has an uncanny ability to build guys up around him. This loss to the Blues statistically means nothing, but I guarantee this will have a serious adverse affect on the entire team.
If Reaves won't play on Crosby's line, tell me how this "protects" the best player in the NHL? St. Louis got the steal of the draft in Kostin at 31…by far the best steal of the draft.
Unless Crosby is on the ice with Reaves he won't get protected. As a Blues fan I can tell you they have gotten more than their fair share of concussions over the years.
What a heck of a trade this was for the Blues now. Oskar Sundqvist has been a crucial bottom 6 forward in the run to the Stanley Cup with being just one win away from finally bringing the Cup home, and they got Kostin for the future.
As a Blues fan, I hated to see Reaves go because he was such a fan favorite in St. Louis. Then I saw what the Blues got with the pick in Kostin and the potential he has. It took some time but Oskar Sundqvist has turned into a very useful two-way forward for the Blues. Draft night 2017 was a big night in the Blues eventually becoming a Stanley Cup winning team when they traded for Schenn and Sundqvist and drafted Robert Thomas. All 3 players ended up having key roles in the Blues run to the Cup.
