Last year was no anomaly. The Pens are cooked.
Same as capitals team of old players that just cant keep up with pace of the game their younger counterparts are able to play at. And they wont ever will be again since they will only become older slower weaker and less accurate. At least one of the trio must go.
pens literally shit the bed against some crap teams at the end of last season allowing the panthers to get into the playoffs ! this year the pens are trying to get their coach fired ! malkin has been sleepwalking for most of this season he may be traded , there are a lot of teams who could sell season tickets by acquiring malkin ! karlson has been a major dissapointment hes letang 2.0 you have to take the good with the bad but with carlson its been more bad ! carlson should get some primary assists on some opponents goals !

just like my Hawks, we had a great run with 3Cups in 6 seasons. nothing lasts forever. they are getting old just like Towes Seabrook Sharp Crawford to name a few….

This team has been deteriorating slowly and last year was no fluke. Time to rebuild but can't move away from their old stars.Trading for Karlsson did not help.
Imo the problem doesnt have much to do with Crosby, Malkin, and Karlsson bc they’re all still playing great. The Letang contract is much worse but he’s still playing well at the moment too so that won’t be an issue for a couple more years. I think the main issues are consistency like you mentioned, but also lack of depth and everyone on the team being injury-prone. The goalies are the biggest inconsistency factor, but imo Karlsson may be part of that problem as well because he increases offense at the cost of defense.

One thing that I think shouldn't go unsaid, on top of the Pens beginning to reach the end of their current era of success, is that the Leafs have a habit of playing bizarrely good when Matthews is unavailable. Almost like the rest of the team just kicks it into high gear when they know he isn't around to bail them out.
They have so many aging, huge ticket players on this roster now. Tampa is on the edge of falling into this valley, it will depend on how they handle guys like Stamkos and Hedman and if they overpay on their next contracts. It's hard to let players go in the NHL, but holding on with an expensive, aging team can spell disaster for years to come, just see Detroit and how long it's taken to rebuild after holding on to aging super stars for too long.
Can someone put Meier out of his NJ misery? Trade him for Malkin or Crosby
Wasn’t fooled by the off season at all. They brought in older players and not calling up the youth or trading for young talent that can fill in the gaps.

It's completely predictable. Almost over the hill players with high contracts and bringing in one of the highest paid defensemen who plays offense but doesn't play defense makes no sense.
Mike Sullivan must be fired. There I said it, Sullivan and the coaches are more the problem. The PP has been pathetic the last month and a half, you can't change the roster more than you already have, so the coaches must go.

The Penguins are consistently underachieving this year and last year was a disaster…might be time to shake up the coaching staff and do a few trades to get things going in the right direction.
Dubas should have definitely got the pulse of his new club before he came in and made a massive deal like the Karlson trade. There's no need to push all the chips in your first couple of weeks on the job
Mike Sullivan has got to go, period, and of story. Unless or until that happens there is literally nothing that is going to change. It is Disco Dan all over again but this is much worse.
Dubas is a lousy GM. He won't last much longer in this league.
I've been watching hockey long enough and have been a Pens fan since they drafted Mario so i understand this is how every great team ends. We're not winning another Cup without a few younger players carrying the vets. We don't have that and won't have that for a long time. This is a .500 team or maybe slightly above unless the NHL decides to remove the powerplay and we play 5 on 5 all the time.
I still think they’ll end up being fine. Just growing pains for an almost entirely new roster. Wait until we’re healthy to make any big decisions
Imo it’s gonna have to come down to a coaching change. Handcuffed with the cap and nmcs. After the all star break if we are still in the basement I can see sully going. Maybe history will repeat a third time and we could make a push from it

Far to soft ,no pride, time to pick up Perry to add toughness ,replace Harkness and Carter with a hard hitting d man who flattens people when they cross the Pens blue line . No excuse for loosing but when you play Toronto in Toronto the refs will put you down 2 to start the game .
DUmBASs was reason Leafs couldnt get passed the first round for 7 years before last year. First of all…he doesnt know how to skate. Secondly he does not know what it takes to win in the playoffs. There was one drat pick year that the biggest player he drafted was one 6'1" player and the heaviest was one 205 lb player. The Leafs have now been trying to fix and phase out his mistakes. You will notice that your team grit will slowly diminish. And Im not talking about having goons or fighters. Good luck with DUmBASs and enjoy Euro hockey.

The forward depth after Crosby,Malkin,Guentzel isn't enough and defence after Letang and Karlsson,Jarrys isn't good enough goalie it looks like a older version with less talent of oilers.
Maybe it's time let Sid,Malkin,Letang,Karlsson go elsewhere and not be expected 1A guys but like Tavares in Toronto. And Stamkos in Tampa be great complimentary player.

Looks good on Dubas, he pissed on the leaf team trading all the draft picks away, I think he knew exactly what he was doing and left our team without pics. I’m not sorry at all he’s gone, as I’m sure many feel same way. We’ll see him in the Soo coaching again maybe sooner than he expects
How is it mess? They were supposed to be good after grabbing the most irresponsible offensive defensemen in the league??? Yikes. Team has been irrelevant for 5 years. East Coast BS per usual. West is the best x last 20 years.

Although we shouldn’t underrate Martina Jones’s performance last night. It was great.
The objective is to win the Cup every year. Realistically though there are some teams that know they are not going to win it this year so their objective is to get the team structure in a position that makes it possible for them to be able to transition to that objective as soon as possible. The Penguins are in some weird mind set right now where they are trying to cross their fingers and win through sheer will. It is not going to work and the sooner they realize that the team needs an overhaul the quicker they can get back to making winning the Cup their priority. Right now their priority is to keep the big three together and enhance that longevity record. Now the big question is this: Are the fans in Pittsburgh going to be content with that and go to the games just to see a legend or two or three continue to play or would they rather see a team that can challenge for the Cup? This team is not the latter.
Their previous game was worrying as well. Habs hit the post 5times, Pens had a lucky comeback and it went to 12rounds of shootouts. I expected Pittsburgh to eviscerate the rebuilding and injured canadiens, not beat them by the skin of their teeth
A loss to the Leafs is meaningless.
If Dubas wanted to make the playoffs he wouldn’t have even tried for karlson. Penguins need defence.

Hands down a cup winner, but alas, this team now is old and can’t finish or prevent enough goals from hitting the back of their net. Even if they somehow turn this around, the constant hard playoff push night after night at their age will cause them to fizzle at the end just like last year.
I thought for sure you'd include the Leafs fans chanting "Dubas"… dropped the ball on that one dude.
