Canucks are out on Ethan Bear

Rick updated Ethan Bear signing elsewhere and which targets might be options for the Canucks now.

  1. The problem isn’t Myers. It’s that they need a bona fide top 4 defenseman who can skate and defend. Like, I don’t know, Slavin. Hopefully Willander develops quickly. Myers is fine as a bottom pairing, but Mr Scout In Chief paid him to be a top 4 on a long term deal to save his job. That’s the problem. He’s not a top 4 and hasn’t been since he got here, and that $6 million means they couldn’t go out and find someone else without moving another contract, which wasn’t easy. It’s not Myers’ fault he’s not a $6 million hockey player. Blame the idiot who thought he was.

  2. Ethan Bear was a player I wanted to see play for the Canucks, but he's a 3rd pairing defenceman on a NHL team, who can play higher in the lineup during emergencies (which was the entire season he played here). The Canucks can't continue to overpay for 3rd pairing defencemen and keep ignoring serious gaps on their second defensive pairing. Tanev is a fearless shotblocker and penalty killer. who can be on the top pairings in a defensive role and not look out of place. They should have never let him go. I never felt that Chatfield got a fair break in Vancouver and like a lot of prospects from that time developed better elsewhere, because Canucks prospect development was only good if you were a goalie or developing outside of their system (Sweden or US College systems).

  3. I am glad the Canucks are not offering Bear anything more than 1 mil a year… Remember he was expandable with the 'Canes, so he is, at best, a bottom-pairing d-man with the ability to fill in temporarily in a top-four role when another player is hurt. He is no better than Soucy and maybe even Myers and Juulsen.

What the Canucks brass should decide right now is if they actually think this team can make some noises in the playoffs. To me, this team is still a few pieces, especially on the backend, away from being a true contender. If that is the assessment shared by management, give the young guys at Abby (McWard, Johansson, Hirose, Woo) at look at the 3RD/3LD spot and see what they are made of.

  4. Myers plays one good game and then everyone forgets how horribly he played the previous 5-6 games costing costing on average a goal per game. Sometimes 2

  5. If only the Canucks had more cap space. Somehow getting Tanev would be nice.
Would also be cool if they can somehow get Edler as the 7th/8th guy at league minimum to officially finalize his career.

  6. Tanev would feel nice but I rarely find that the feel nice moves are the best moves. I say take the 1st pick, Podkolzin and go shopping and see what it can get. 10th overall and a 16-24th overall pick can look good to a few teams in bad spots. be the media rebuilding story they need. Think it would have most value in the east, mayb Columbus or Philly

  7. Im scared of edmonton! Its not even Christmas and they got to .500???? Would like to see another player added (top 6 or top D) in the new year after the christmas freeze

  8. If we’re just throwing names out there, how bout Luke Schenn? He knows the team, knows the coaches, knows the guys, knows the systems and the fans all like him. If Nashville is out of it by TDL, I can’t see why the Predators won’t trade him. But they’ll have to retain a bit on his 2.75 mil deal
