What a mess in Arizona for the Washington Capitals. Time to shake things up

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Caps loss in Arizona and what need to change before they take on the Dallas Stars. The game got out of hand in the first period where the score was 5-0 Arizona. Darcy Kuemper was chased out of the net. The Capitals struggled the entire game and could not find the back of the net. Later Dan talks about how the Caps should give some of the elite players in Hershey a chance in DC so they could shake things up and hopefully start scoring goals. Later Dan talks about how Ryan Leonard and Ryan Chesley named to Team USA’s preliminary 2024 World Junior Championship roster.

  1. I think it's time to call him up for at least 3-4 games. He can play 9 this season and still get an extra year of his ELC but honestly if he comes up and kills it he should be left up. He's had time to adjust to NA game.

  2. Give Sutter a shot on the 4th line. NAK has been struggling as of late and it’d be good to see how the potential successor to Dowd looks at the NHL level

  3. I think Ovi isn’t at 100% whether it’s due to injury or being out of shape, or it is just age, but I also think he’s no longer capable of being this teams number 1 option. He should be the 2nd or even 3rd best player on a true contender now. I don’t even know if he should be a top line winger after this year. I know that sounds blasphemous, but he’s getting older and can benefit from being on the 2nd line where he’s not against other teams top defenders and can continue to play efficiently on reduced minutes. The problem is he has to be this teams 1st option because no one else has stepped up.

  4. What I have been noticing and I could be wrong but, what I notice is whether it be due to lack of high end talent or age is that the caps have a lot of third and fourth line players. I don’t see much that jumps off the page as other teams do. They really need to bring in a top 6 forward/center if they want to do something. I’m not opposed to bring up players but the team can’t bank on them being a top like player atm. I’m not saying they can’t but I don’t see it right now.

  5. Blame Kuemper all you want but the skaters have to take the blame for that mess. How many goals did they score? Oh that's right a big fat 0. Can't blame a goalie for a loss when your team doesn't score.

I have to say though Carbery has to show some guts and declare Charlie the no 1. It's clear at this point Kuemper just isn't doing well.

  6. What a find Dube is. Undrafted guy still relatively young and on a 2 year contract. Honestly could be worth a try DC

  7. I could be totally off base here but I think Ovi's dad passing has affected him. He barely scored a goal after he came back from Russia last season. He possibly didn't dedicate himself to his fitness in the offseason like he used to. Let's not forget he has 2 young children now too. There is only a limited amount of time in our day. All I can say is if he continues like this for the rest of the season I hope he does the right thing and retires. I don't want to see him dragging down our team limping to 895 for the next 5 years. If it takes him until he's 42-43 to break it it tarnishes his legacy.

  8. I been watching closely..i know why ovi isn't scoring as usual…he hasn't received a good quality pass on the pp .its always out of his wheelhouse..Carlson not passing at high quality levels..Carlson timing way off his timing is not insinc he throws ovi often out of position..

  9. Edmonton in dire need of a goalie atm..why not flip kuemper and kuzy for nugent Hopkins and take back another player to make the money for
Edmonton ..then come up with a pkg for Minnesota to part ways with kirill kaprizov might cost a first second and prospect not miro or mcmichael tho..send oshie home to Minnesota on a rebate…

  10. Miro is not ready, he needs a full AHL season to round out his game. I’m excited about him too, but it would be irresponsible to rush him. He’s going to be an Elite player for us one day… let’s not rush it and screw it up.

  11. Is it just me, or did the defense look better without Fehrevary? Im a huge fan of Marty but …. The defense was clicking with him on IR. I dunno maybe that's just me. Carlson hasnt looked good this road trip. Sandin isnt playing to his potential. Heres hoping for a solid bounceback and some fight in this team to not just give up on the season.
