  1. Not sure why you’re wearing an oilers sweater. Holland got whipped on this deal.

  2. I don't see how this is a huge win for the Blackhawks, or a huge defeat for the Oilers.

  3. I agree. In Edmonton's situations I think this is a decent pickup. It's not like they are looking for Duncan Keith to save them. Only 2 years left on his deal most of their core pieces already signed… It's not that big of a risk, and I don't think they really gave up a ton either.

  4. Risky for sure Keith averaged over 23 min of ice last season, and a lessened role should benefit him. Pretty stunning resume to bring into a room where no one has really ever won anything. 3 cups, 2 olympic golds, norris .Worth the risk in my opinion

  5. Last season Leafs trade to get Foligno for 1st & 4th rounder. He had 0 goals in playoffs. 0 cups. 0 awards. Foligno is a ufa now.

Oilers get for next 2 yrs a 3x cup champ, 2x olympic gold winner, 2x norris winner, 1x conn smythe winner, multiple all-star appearances…and y'all complaining the Oil gave away too much & paying him $5.5M is too much. WOW!

  6. Shannon if u think a near retired Keith will get them anywhere I gotta laugh Keith is prolly gonna retired in two years or less if he gets hurt

  7. Big problem. He has to be protected which means depending who oilers protect… they lose either a russel, bear or klefbom (they can save one of these with protection but the other two unprotected) .

  8. I read Duncan Keith wants to retire near family and wanted out of Chicago so that's why he's going to Edmonton

  9. I agree Keith is exactly what the oilers need , but not at a 5 million dollar cap hit , Holland is paying for a name ….hence why Chicago won this trade

  10. This can't hurt The Oilers; but I can't see (by Keith's performance over the last couple of seasons) how it's going to greatly help them either. Certainly will have its effects, with his experience of Cup runs & wins… (They could pull a Canucks move, and take the C away from McDavid – What a dumb move that was giving a kid the C in the first place! How's that been working out? – and give it to Keith!) Final analysis: That team is cursed from hubris. Ha! (Not quite Maple Leaves cursed, of course…)

  11. I really do not get people freaking out over this trade. Hear me out on this one.
    – Keith only has 2 years left on his contract, so even if the Oilers choose to buy him out, it is not a long term thing, considering Keith's current age. At most, they eat $4.65M next year, and $600K in the following 2 years.
    – There is no replacement for experience and mentorship when it comes to building a team, as you cannot put a price on that. I feel the one thing holding the Oilers back is the lack of a veteran presence (James Neal and Kris Russell are the only players who are 33 and older on the Oilers).
    – You must be deluded to think you can get a first round pick and/or a prospect for a 38 year old Duncan Keith. In his prime, maybe, but this is not the Keith who will be logging heavy minutes on the ice. He will most likely be a 3rd pairing guy to help young defensemen work their game out and serve as a veteran role on a team. You propose that, and get ready to be laughed out of a room.

  12. The media is notoriously ignorant on intangibles in hockey. Their consensus is that this move is bad because money and asset management and oh no my beloved corsi #s etc. But that which Edmonton needs most is a veteran presence, a winning pedigree and some experience on the blue line. Even if they swallow the whole cap hit and give up a mediocre/mid-tier prospect, they need a player like him to school the young'ins.

  13. I for one like this trade, Edmonton is doing what all the cool kids are doing, brought on a playoff grizzled old man.. Key difference is, Keith knows how to win… Now if only Edmonton can reach the playoffs

  14. As a hawks fan I hope we get Jones now since we got his brother the asking price is too high though.

  15. The whole point of this trade, was for Oilers to experience Duncan Keith’s leadership. He has won 3 Stanley cups and various other trophies he knows how to win. Caleb Jones is shit anyway.
