  1. This is on KD…this was his plan. I wasn’t expecting a winning season or playoffs but it’s more than that…
As soon as he won the lottery he should’ve been on the phone with Kane and Toews to gauge their interest. If Pittsburgh wins the lottery, they’re not pushing Crosby and Malkin out and calling them “roadblocks” to Connor’s development. I get Kane OK’d the trade initially and Toews stepped away- but Kane was a FA and clearly he was open to a return. Toews was told he wouldn’t be offered a contract…I bet if Kyle said we’d love to have him back he would’ve. The general vibe from the hawks was a slammed shut door…
We had great leadership in here to absorb new stars. No they weren’t who they used to be but neither were who Kyle brought in and this season wasn’t about winning anyway. I’m so tired of hearing the “it was time to move on, needed new leadership” bullshit…Other organizations don’t think that way…you can try and fool yourself into thinking Hall and Perry were better but even if they were here, they’re not. I guarantee if you ask Connor, he would prefer 88 and 19 were here.
I get Kyle wanted “new leadership” to form, but I think he miscalculated. Connor’s 18, his time to lead the team will come soon enough…clearly, he’s not there yet. Having “legends” to defer to in the locker room would’ve been nothing but a good thing for him. As it stands now, Connor is all opposing defenses have to focus on with no one to lean on but Foligno. (who’s great don’t get me wrong)..
Again, idc that they’re losing. It’s all about Connor’s development and him feeling confident and taken care of by the Hawks. I can’t imagine he feels that way so far
