  1. Not really all that surprising that a trade happened between these two teams, Pittsburgh made it known after losing to the Canadiens changes would be made, and we knew the Leafs Had to make a move. But how we feeling?

  2. Eliminated in the first round last year and losing in the qualifier.. And Pittsburgh still trades their first-rounder. Uh.. Their prospect pool is weak. They should be trying to get more young prospects. Sure, Kappy is young, but this screams trying to win with the core again. Could be a real bad decision.

  3. In 3-4 years, When Letang, Crosby and Malkin gets old and retires, Pittsburgh will become the new Detroit Red-Wings. Surfed on success with generational players, without rebuilding. Have fun being mediocre for at least 10 years in the future.

  4. As a Pens fan, I've liked Kapanen from when we drafted him, but we have way overpaid here, and GMJR is getting more questionable by the day with decisions like this

  5. As a Leafs fan it is nice to be interested in the 2020 draft once more but hate losing Kap

  6. Jesper Lindgren just needs a Chase with a injury on the penguins d Core so he gets called up After that he Will Windows a norris probably

  7. Pens don’t like prospects I feel like and it quite annoying because every trade I look at of them the have a high pick or a prospect leaving the franchise

  8. Kapanen was fast bit he didnt have much iq . even Matthews stated he didnt want to be on a line with him after last year. I mean like how many times have you seen kapanen skate up the o zone to stop and spin around the bottom of the circle . its almost like his speed is too fast for his brain or something like that

  9. Pens are stupid for giving a first this year for him. 3 rd line winger with no defensive skills

  10. Rutherford clearly wants to have the first day of drafting off, every year… since he took over they've drafted in the first round twice, and won't this year or next year…

  11. Is it my imagination or do players who leave the Leafs suddenly become better hockey players once they are on a new team? Could it have something to do with leaving Crazy Town?

  12. It had to be the 2020 pick because about a week ago the penguins decided to keep their 2020 instead of 2021, which they owe to Minnesota for Zucker. That is why it is this years pick not 2021.

  13. Kapanen seems like Carl Hagelin V2.0 – tons of speed, hands of stone. He had playing time on the Top 2 lines but didn't produce so slipped to the 3rd and a PK specialist. He even describes himself as "not a goal scorer or point producer, but more an energy guy", Toronto should be delighted to get a 1st and a decent prospect.

  14. first 1st rounder within the top 15 pit's had in a while and its immediately burned…if anything they should've kept the draft pick

  15. As a big Pens fan, I hate it when they trade away 1 round picks. You never know how that draft pick might turn out to be. And why is Jack Johnson still on the team? The biggest decision there gonna have to make is who is going to be the starting goaltender. Jarry was fantastic during the season, Murray was inconsistent.

  16. Biased Pens fan here. With Kapanen, Tanev, Blueger, and Aston-Reese/Rust, our forwards on the penalty kill will be speedy and gritty. So that’s a win I guess

  17. Jesper Lindgren, Pontus Aberg and Kapanen will become gods and be in the HHOF when they retire with like 500 goals and 100 points (cuz they in pittsburg)

  18. Leafs receive a bunch of trash and a 1st round pick, will end up trading it for some soft ass player.

  19. Imagine the reaction in Toronto if the Penguins win 2 Cups after this trade like the Kessel one…. The City will burn

  20. You asked for a comment from a Leafs or Pens fan – as a Leafs fan, here’s mine:
1st round pick in a deep draft
    Hallander’s promising
We’re desperate to free up cap space and this frees up $3.2m
I like Kap’s speed but poor at completing plays. Don’t care about the other two going to Pit.
Warsofsky’s a career minor leaguer but could replace brutal Marincin when call-up is needed
    Conclusion: we did okay.

  21. I'm a penguin fan and I think it's a terrible trade. But their mind set is still fuck the future let's go now. So if you're trying to find a right wing to play in the top 6 and fit under their cap the options are limited. Good move for the leafs though.

  22. Pens fan here, not surprised by the trade. Rutherford has proven time and time again there as long as Crosby, Malkin and Letang are penguins, any other players/picks/prospects are all expendable in the name of another cup run. Was it an over pay? Yeah. Is he gonna play with Sid? Most likely. Does Sid have a tendency to turn kids into studs? Look at Guentzel. Basically, as a fan base we have to accept that as long as JR is the GM, we’re gonna deal anything and everything that isn’t the big 3 to get us another cup

  23. Diehard Pens fan.

I don't think anyone is upset with the trade, itself – Kasperi was coveted (and drafted) by the Pens prior. It is a great fit in place of Conor Sheary with Sid and provides way more speed and grit which is two things the Pens lack.

The upsetting thing is that Pittsburgh is quite strapped resource wise to fix glaring issues – namely Jack Johnson's abysmal contract, Justin Schutlz departing without an obvious replacement, (Yes, I understand a Traffic Cone would've been better), and a very weak bottom 6 with more questions than answers. The team is now top-heavy with little to no depth and a poor at best Defense. As such, the value of the 1st rounder probably should've been used to address one of the immediate needs, rather than a secondary in my book.

  24. Wish they would keep 1st round picks. And get rid of some old guys, no matter who they are. The window to another cup is closed.

  25. the team that get the best player wins typically, and I see no reason to go against that in this trade. Kapenen is the best plaer in this trade by far the 1st round player might not even make it to the NHL

  26. As the Leafs are my hometown team, I want to see them do well. Kap is my favourite player and now I feel really conflicted. I love Kappy but I absolutely hate Pittsburgh, I hope Kap does well but I think it’s safe to say Toronto wins this trade
