Vitek seems like a nice guy, and at times he makes some big saves, but he is SO inconsistent. The writing has been on the wall since last spring. Vitek started falling apart (a road game in Colorado comes to mind where Akira came in and stood on his head after Vitek dug the Devils a hole) and he continued to crumble into the playoffs.
Fast forward to this season and Vitek is his same old inconsistent self. Schmid has been the far superior goaltender this season but the team has not given him enough consistent playing time to get into a groove.
Hopefully this game was the turning point.

I hate to be so trigger happy with the guy but like others said, VV has his moments but overall WAY too inconsistent. I think VV would benefit with some time in Utica, but if one thing's clear it's that Schmid needs to start.

I agree with your take on being trigger happy with underperforming goalies, if he's not the guy you gotta make a change. Like you said, teams age quick you can't afford to waste seasons when you're best players are playing like stars.
Agreed, my dude. V², I love the guy, but his confidence is so shaken. It seems like anytime he lets in one there's a second or third coming in short order. He just gets in his head and rattled too easily. I keep rooting for him to turn it around, but yeah he's not the guy for us.
Fitz is shopping, but the goalie market is as dry as a desert. Rumor has it Gibson is being looked at again. We'll see what happens, but anyone is probably an upgrade over current Vitek.
Unfortunately for V, I completely agree with you .. Makes some big saves sometimes however the lack of consistency is a major problem.. It makes me wonder how last season he was the first goalie since MB30 to have a 30 + W season…. ? Was it because the Devils were highly offensive..?? Whatever the case may be … they need to give Akira a chance between the pipes ( In your words “V is not the guy “) I can see in his eyes the lack of confidence.. BTW .. did you know there is a Martin Brodeur whisky 🥃? It’s quite delicious 😂
Geez, I love Akira and completely agree with giving him the net, but I really feel for Vitek because 1, he's literally the most wholesome soul in the hockey world, and two, I get in my head like he does so I totally get what he's probably feeling. Unfortunately, getting in your own head is not gonna help you make saves. Schmid moves on from it and plays with a consistent skill level, which is a big reason why I love him, but I don't think Vitek is a bad goalie by any means. He just gets in his own head just like I do and I totally feel for him. So don't be mean to Frenches Braces!
(I call him that because in the video that was posted of him giving out Friendship Bracelets it sounds like he says 'frenches braces' and I thought it was super wholesome and endearing)
