[NHL Watcher] Friedman talking Tanev (32TP): “I had a couple of people who think that Calgary makes another run to sign him, now I don’t know what the likely hood of that is or isn’t, but I did have a couple of who think that Calgary will try and keep him, so we’ll see how that all plays out”

If we’re truly aiming for a youth movement, he would be an amazing presence in the locker room. For the right price and term of course. Dude is the definition of a gigachad

I would rather have them back the brinks truck up for Tanny than to watch another flames defenseman go play for the fucking leafs. Especially Tanev. That fan base doesn’t deserve a Tanev.

    Fuck the oilers.

    Fuck the canucks.

    Fuck the leafs.

    CALLED IT!

Lindholm will be on a 70 million dollar deal by there end of the month, stupid fucking management

Yeah, I’m okay with re-signing Tanev to a reasonable deal to stay. He’s a terrific veteran presence and 2 or 3 year deal won’t be all that problematic.

But I don’t think you can read more into this, that because they’re possibly* trying to re-sign Tanev, it means they’re also going to try to re-sign Lindholm and Hanifin. For one thing, Lindholm allegedly turned down the Flames’ offer of an 8 year deal at 8.5M+. It really does seem like he just doesn’t want to be here anymore. Hanifin’s on again, off again situation seems a little more murky but if he also walked away from that 8yr/7.5M per offer, then the same applies.

*Could be Conroy and the Flames just sending a message to all interested parties that they need to up their offers if want Tanev

2×4.5 and I’m not going to complain.

He keeps the same cap hit, we get another 2 years out of him. He’s got some really hard miles on him, but I think I’d take the risk. Worst case he goes on LTIRetirement and we get the cap space back.

He’s done such a great job with our young guys, he deserves to stay if he wants to.

Idk about this one, I think you’d be wiser to see how some of these young guys play and then make a decision on contracts when you’ve got a better understanding of things, especially since Tanev is the kind of dman people will overpay for at the deadline

  7. I’d love to keep him on a decent contract unless some team makes an exceptional offer

Tanev is a good choice because:

    1. Compared to the other pending UFAs he will likely be cheap, and the term on his contract will be very short. I wouldn’t be surprised if he would sign in the $4 million range for 2 or 3 years, and while he likely doesn’t live up to this contract it won’t be a drag on the team for years to come.
    2. He has a track record of playing with young defense men, sheltering them, and mentoring them. With players like Poirier, Kuznetsov, and Solovyov we could use someone like him.
    3. He is a leader on the ice and (reportedly) in the dressing room. If you’re getting younger you need veterans to show them how to play.

Can’t have an entire roster filled with rooks. Gotta have some good veteran leadership in there as well.

I wouldn’t mind keeping him, specially if potential returns aren’t even that good.

Don’t re up anyone. Move every asset you can.
