Pretty underwhelming return to me. Especially in division.

We got him for a 3rd, and he’s only improved since then.

  2. braybray35

So basically a slim Jim, a piece of 5 gum, and a bag of used pucks, Cool!

  3. Remember, we paid Chicago a 3rd to get him in the first place.

  4. Absolutely fleeced. And to a division rival at that.

  5. thebigkitten_

Yeah, that’s awful by Conroy. Should’ve just held him until the deadline if this was going to be the return.

  6. steven00123

Horrendous return, zero faith in us committing to a rebuild if this is what we can expect from trades 💀💀

  7. IMakeShips4Europeans

I was secretly hoping for the Ben Chiarot special but if you actually watch Zadorov play this is closer to fair value. Thanks for your service Zad

This is exactly what I was telling everyone who’s team sell. The returns for these guys in this cap strapped market aren’t going to be particularly high.

Very likely neither of these picks end up being NHL calibre players.

We gave up a 3rd to get him and get one back for dumping him. After how he’s played since the trade request, we should consider ourselves lucky we even managed to get this return for him. Oesterle/Gilbert-Desimone pairing do be kinda horrifying though

  10. Gross. Feel like Conroy could have done better but what do I know

  11. Quirky-Fee4027

Wow great trade for the Canucks, hopefully this pushes them to the Cup

  12. Paulhockey77

Kinda expected that return tbh. Although was kinda hoping for a second

  13. Jam_Marbera

This was the big man’s “We are doing this on our terms so we get a good return” statement trade

  14. BlackFalconEscalator

Figured he would have fetched more than that. Tad disappointing

  15. dalkride

Everyone up in arms already, no surprise there. Let Conroy cook, he just freed up cap space and we got back more for Zadorov than we paid for him.

    5th and 3rd? Not terrible.

    Not great, but not terrible.

  17. super6646

Value is about right. Would’ve preferred a second or 2024 3rd, but fan expectations for value are out of whack big time.

He’s a solid #5d who wanted out lol. And some ppl were expecting first round value still… no.

  18. wanderer8800

I wonder if he was making the room toxic and it was time to move on. It’s not an ideal return, but I would guess the offers were extremely low because he went public with his trade request. Great opportunity for the kids in the AHL to seize a spot on our D now.

Does the Flames retain any salary? If not, then that might explain the underwhelming return.

  20. Somewhat expected for a 3rd pairing defender that publicly wanted out and then had a couple shitty games.

  21. Nativejoel

You know. I’m glad we’re trading our UFAs.

But God Conroy, you could’ve gotten more for him. Even with his abysmal play recently.

  22. RealAdamRoth

I’d have made the Canucks throw in a washing machine.

  23. Grieferdubs

I’m just here to see Conroy cook, and zad been looking sad since his public whine fest. Besides his size, his play has been lackluster as of late. Not the worst considering how we got zad 🙏

  24. HarryPotter1312

He must’ve been terrible in the locker room this season.

  25. Dude is a 3rd pairing player who publicly requested a trade. Some people heavily overvalued him

  26. arcticfox

I liked the guy, but I’m not sad to see him go.

  27. KrolWorld

Flames were clearly pinched with Pelletier coming back and potentially bring Coronato back. Cap space now gives them a lot of options.

  28. Prof_Seismitoad

My highest price on him was 2 3rds and maybe a little more if they retained. Guy had 1 amazing season but often is a liability.

  29. The-Reddit-Giraffe

This is a Conroy W for me. Zadorov is not a good player. He’s an average and inconsistent 3rd pairing player

  30. Joshiggity

So many people over valued him. Thinking we could get a first. This goes to show what his true value is. He may have gone for a 2nd to a desperate team near the deadline but that’s a gamble. I think it’s a good deal for sure

  31. mattziki_bf

Canucks fan here. I really didn’t want to go after Zadorov because I thought we would overpay and/or he was overvalued just because we have holes in our D right now, but it seems like the consensus here is that y’all got one more pick than he cost in the first place so technically a win for you folks, especially considering there was no hope in hell of him re-signing in Calgary. I think from the Canucks perspective it’s a good trade too. I am also ASTOUNDED that this happened between division rivals, but maybe CGY knows that Zadorov has no intent of signing with any western teams or something, who knows.

There’s still a very real chance he either isn’t good enough for the team to be interested in signing him again, or he doesn’t want to sign with us either, because he is by NO MEANS a shoe-in for that second pairing. When Vancouver is healthy, he’s probably 3rd pairing but like, closer to 2B, but he probably wants a clear second pairing role in his next contract. So we paid for a few months of a big guy to fill a need in our org, without any guaruntees of anything past this year. The only wildcard is what he looks like in Tocchet’s system. If he is able to stabilize, stop chasing hits, and actually play at a bonafide 2nd pairing D level, that would be insane for us. It’s a gamble, but god I love that we made the trade. Potentially huge win for Van, but also potentially a clear loss. CGY can, in theory, package those additional picks with another player headed out for like a nice young prospect or a higher quality pick too, just more assets that don’t have cap-space tied to them. Another just… solid hockey trade, maybe.

  32. godofhammers3000

Tough to grade without other deals getting done during this time to compare it too

If every other team was only offering a fourth at best then this looks great

We got him for a third so the fact that we don’t lose value on the time Zads spent here is good

  33. swagsauce3

Get the fuck out of here you big whiney russian! have fun throwing grenades in BC.

  34. Emotional_Carpet_168

Return is as expected, only thing I don’t like is where they sent him too.

  35. MonkeySailor

Very whelming return. But glad it’s pure futures with no cap dump or middling roster players coming back.

Flames originally gave up a 3rd for Zadorov. Get that plus a 5th back but then again, Zadorov had improved a fair bit since coming over. Should have been able to get a 2nd rounder you’d think

  36. Hockonlube

5th round. Good grief. That’s miserable.

  37. 16NikitaZadorov16

Wonder what Toronto was offering when they were openly trying to convince him on the ice to come…

  38. Previous-Exit8449

Damn. Don’t get much when it goes public he wants out.
