  1. Nylander is the most talented and skilled Leaf! (remove Marner and Matthews will produce very little… Nylander doesn't depend on anyone!)

  2. 50 goals isn't 50 goals, no matter how you put it.
50 goals with 4 Stanley cup rings always trumps 50 goals with no rings, or only one ring.

  3. Matthews won’t be breaking the scoring record. He’s made of glass and has no heart. He won’t last long enough and his career will continue to be filled with long stints on the IR.

  4. Matthews is a center that doesn't carry the ..the play. He lets Marner do all the work. Matthews waits in the Ovi spot. matthews goals are the result of his teammates work. Matthews takes considerable more shots than the competion, and yet his shooting percent is lower than guys like Ovi, Draisitail , Pasternak.

  5. Maple Leaf fans may hate me for writing this but Pretty Boy Matthews reminds me of a cars gas tank.
At the start of the season with a full tank Matthews scores a lot but at the end of the season the tank is empty and he disappears for the playoffs.

  6. All you hating on Mathew’s is pretty funny, I’m a Canucks fan but even I have to respect greatness, this kid has got it, and hating on him isn’t gonna do anything

  7. Bias aside, watching 34 play is absolutely unreal.. His hands, his two way skill, IQ and that shot. He's the whole package for goal scorers.

  8. A wonderful regular season player, but next to useless come playoff time because he does not have the ability to raise his game. Leafs will never go anywhere as long as this dude is the main man. Seven years of the playoff misery is proof enough. Should have been traded last summer.

  9. When people say this stuff it makes me seriously question them. There is such a small chance of Matthews getting to that number, and people don't want to look at their ages when they do these comparisons. Goals/game doesn't mean you're going to get "X" amount of goals if you aren't playing full seasons. Matthews has missed 55 games so far in his 8 seasons, and Ovechkin has missed 56 in 19 seasons. One more game missed, and 11 more seasons. By this pace Matthews will have missed a full season's worth of games by the end of his 11th season or start of his 12th. I don't even have a Matthews hate, but the numbers just don't support it. He was older and slower (more GP) to hit 300 goals, he'll be older and slower to hit 350, and so on. He's a generational talent, but he isn't passing Ovi or Gretzky
