A Preseason So Nice, the Colorado Avalanche Played Twice…In One Day

The Colorado Avalanche played twice Sunday in their first action of preseason games. One squad went up north to play the Minnesota Wild while another stayed home to play the Vegas Golden Knights.

Unfortunately, the Minnesota game wasn’t available to watch but we can take some pride in the fact that the majority of that team were young prospects and went up against a Minnesota team playing several starters.

After getting behind by two in the 2nd period, the young Avs tied it up in the 3rd behind goals from Spencer Smallman and Shane Bowers. They would eventually lose it in OT, but to hang with the big boys was something we are sure Jared Bednar, who was coaching this squad, can be proud of.

In the other game, many more of the Avs set to make the official roster took part, along with many prospects vying for a roster spot.

We got to see what Evan Rodrigues can do with his deadly shot. Young guys like Oskar Olausson, Jean-Luc Foudy, and Alex Beaucage put their talent on display, while Martin Kaut struggled.

And what about Alex Georgiev? How did he look in playing half the game? Chris was impressed.

In the end, the Avs scored three unanswered to beat Vegas, 3-1

  1. Just curious: What are your plans regarding doing livestreams in the future? Last year it seemed like you started doing a couple, then as fast as they appeared, they disappeared. Wasn't sure why. Wondered if this season there would be any, and if so when.

  2. Ugly football game, full of errors from both sides. But hey, we'll take it.

  3. There’s more that I need to see but Georgiev looked great his first night out. I completely blame the one that got by him on Mcderpy for coughing up the puck along the boards

  4. I will get ragged on, and I’m no expert- BY ANY MEANS. This is about MacDermid. I realize his value as an “enforcer.” I know that he is loved by teammates, however, he is not at all athletic, comparatively speaking, of course. The Avalanche are incredibly fast and talented, and he does not fit. With all the young, fast guys with talent, I’d much rather have those guys than MacDermid. We sit 11 rows up, and we just chuckle when he’s out there. Yes, we cheer for him, but at times it’s pretty amusing.

  5. Avs fans. Looking for a fun game? Every time Shaggy Von Doon says "like" you take a drink. You'll probably get tipsy within first ten minutes of the show.

  6. A good start to the preseason. Georgiev, Annunen, Johansson very positive. Olausson impressed me. Foudy and Beaucage could also show that there is a lot to be very positive for the future. Evan Rodrigues showed positive signs and you could see why the Avs got him. But I wonder, if he won't be better on a wing than center, but Bednar knows. All in all a very good effort, but there is work necessary for the pp, enjoyed the game!

  7. Great show! Interesting storylines! 👍 sounds like the split squad games went well and the prospects are coming along great! Except maybe for Kaut who sounds like he is struggling. Thank you for video! 👍

  8. As a fellow little league catcher, I loved the catcher-goalie analogy. Totally the same as nhl goalie 😂😆. Great show, thanks guys!

  9. So fun to watch them play again. By the second they were looking great. Shame the first game wasn't aired but at least I got some stuff done around the house instead 🤣 Beaucage, Byram, Compher, Olausson, MacDonald and E Rod all looked great to me.

  10. One game in and I already love Evan Rodrigues, I knew he had a shot but I didn't realize how good of a skater he is. He looks like he's going to fit like a glove in our middle six

  11. I drove 6 hours over the weekend to go to the Minnesota game, Annunen looked really great, he had a handful of super great saves ( the one where he got his entire body from the right post to the left post to block a crazy rebound was especially impressive). The rest of the team also looked pretty good for a team of AHL/PTO/4th Liners up against a full Minnesota roster, particularly in 5v5 play. However they seemed a bit rough on the PP, they only truly got set up in the zone once. And of course 3v3 was a very rough 48 seconds lol. Honestly thought it was kinda odd that Minnesota played their stars so much rather than their prospects.

Editing this as I go thru the podcast – Newhook absolutely stood out when he was carrying the puck against MN but now that you mention it, he did kind of disappear once he got the puck into the O-zone. Galchenyuk didn't particularly stand out to me unfortunately, although it's still the pre-season so I'm still hoping for another Val Nichushkin-esque second wind.

  12. Hey Go AVAS..I lived in Denver for a couple of years !°when they first started in the NHL I was still doing .my prison time !!!!@
