I probably wouldn't have even seen or noticed Fleury's mask at all, but now that the league has made a big deal out of it, my attention is drawn to it AND they look bad…
I always thought Flower would make a perfect NHL engagement ambassador or something like that after retirement.

Again the pride tape was banned, someone used the tape and they the NHL backed off. It only serves entitled culture warriors who have a certain opinion, even tho I don’t see how a guy of First Nations heritage wearing a mask celebrating his heritage actually affects anyone except the really weird people who are shunned from society and say some dumbass things
Maybe the NHL recognizes it has fans that would like to be able to watch a sport without constantly being reminded that they're bad for being white or having tradiitional values? The horror. I'm sure if someone (say Provorov) were a goalie and wanted to wear a mask celebrating his Christian values, this whole comment section would have the exact same reaction……right?
Let's start with the expansion Canucks placed in the east division while they moved Chicago to the west. History dictates ass nine decisions abound past future or otherwise shall be made. With Gary at the helm you can bank on it. When it comes to PR not much talent there. All IMHO of course.
Fleury's mask ban is definitely something that Bettman deserves to catch hell for. But you know who else is to blame for this? James Reimer, Marc and Eric Staal, and Ivan Provorov. The absolute "no theme night" ban is in place because of those clowns.
This nonsense with the theme stuff clearly is because of the deals with advertising on the jerseys and helmets. The NHL is worried that some advertiser isn't going to want to be seen supporting certain causes.
What if … Fleury starts the game with his regular mask and it breaks beyond repair?

The jerseys for warm ups are actioned off for the teams choice of charity. My Kings have their player wear them as they walk in from their cars to the locker room, instead of during warmups. They still auction them off and make some money for key organization for that fundraiser

I go away from hockey for a while again and come back and an immediately given reminders of why I got away from it (not your fault at all, THG). If the NHL is anything, consistent isn't it.
Benson has been one of the better forwards on the team, third best on the roster in 5v5 points per 60 minutes. For all the talk among Sabres fandom about not having depth and needing to bring in veterans, the youngsters are leading the way (JJ Peterka is best in 5v5 points per 60)

The NHL made the right decision about Fleurys mask. Better to put out a fire while it's small than to wait until it's an inferno and scramble to contain it later.
People seem to forget the players are employees of the NHL and if there's a dress code they have to follow it. Forget fines they should suspended the players.
The problem with Fleury mask is if they choose a race of people like he did he did it would only make sense to do one for every race. And we all know that'll never happen.
Goalies have always decorated their masks with their own personal causes.
The mask is one of the only pieces of equipment that can be decorated uniquely to the player themself; if this is what the player believes, they should be allowed to wear it.
This whole controversy could've been easily avoided had rhey just allowed people to abstain from any theme nights they so choose with no fear of backlash.
I don't see an issue with the mask. Just wear it and say it's your mask. Tell them it is Fleury themed.
I still say teams should declare one of what used to be their themed jerseys as their third jerseys each year.
You can't say one punishment and then change it when you don't like the result. That would be like fining a player and in an interview they say they won't change and then after the fact suspending them

Chicago’s PR is not great. By saying absolutely nothing, they just draw attention to the Perry situation.
The helmet has flowers (his nickname is flower) and the original way 'minnesota' was written and pronounced. To me that's barely themed. Also it was honoring his wife's harritage. Personal designs are the norm for goalie masks… NHLosers

WTF NHL re: Fleury's mask. Edmonton Oilers literally wheel out a native tribe member to talk about… natives and native stuff before every game (I don't know exactly what–I kind of tune all that pre-game stuff out).
Flower is one of the most likable guys in the entire league if they actually try to fine him I expect it to be an absolute pr nightmare. At least the memes will be great
I agree with the nhl. A rule is a rule and all the scofflaws on Twitter shouldn’t change that.
