I’d rather we kept Monty and Cayden just based on age

I would take their unprotected first and a propect

  2. Kotkaniemint

If they’re willing to overpay, then sure.

Otherwise I’d rather hold onto both and give them more time since we’re in no rush. I’d be asking for something along the lines of a 2nd for Primeau or a 1st for Monty.

Also with all the trade news surrounding these 2 why is no team interested in Jake Allen

  4. beto5243

I feel like they’d just have to give us such a stupid amount for this to happen that there’s no way it does. Like we don’t want to trade Monty, we don’t have another genuine starter option in the organization, and he wants to re-sign here and we’ve got plenty of cap space. I just don’t see it.

Wow, Drai+McDavid for Monty+Anderson+Struble incoming. You read it first here!

I welcome a big haul any day of the week, but it would be a shame to see Monty continue to develop elsewhere. Feel he’s been super solid for us despite how terrible we have been the last couple years, imagine if he had a team in front of him

I’d sell on any of our goalies honestly. None of Allen, Montembeault or Primeau is really starter material on a Cup contending team, and none really stands out as head and shoulders above the others, so I’d have no real issue shipping out whichever one garners the biggest return.

  8. Willzyix

Trade him. Goalies don’t have a ton of value unless they’re truly elite and we don’t have enough spots for everyone.

  9. thebrah329

Would rather give up allen, but send whoever off if they want to give up the value and edmonton is desperate.

  10. Who cares.. Monty is at best a backup. If they offer a 1st you take it and run.

My Habs and my Second team the SpOilers .I’m kinda torn but there’s no way we trade Monty unless it’s a big overpay. Honestly I think the Oilers should try and get Ullmark from Boston but that don’t help the Habs with our 3 goalie rotation

If anyone thinks we’re getting more than a 4th for Primeau or a 3rd for Monty at any point before the TDL, you’re crazy.

If it happens I’ll eat my words, but Georgiev went for two 3rds and a 5th, and he’s far better than either of those two guys. Husso and Vanecek went for a 3rd each as well.

  13. Le8ronJames

If they think Monty or Prime is the issue to their team, I’ll take their unprotected 1st round pick.

  14. Thaddeauz

To be honest, even if I really prefer to keep Monty, if they are ready to overpay then I’ll say yes. I’m comfortable with Allen and Primeau for another year and an half.

  15. WintertimeLivingEasy

They should move him, idk why people wants to keep him, he’s just another average goalie.

And it would prevent Hughes from signing him for 3+ years.

Monty for a 1st rounder is an automatic yes.

  16. I’m 100% down for a trade where we would potentially fleece a desperate team.

  17. Anyone who says not to entertain the offer is nuts. We’re not in a competing position this year; let Edmonton overpay for one of our goalies, why not?

It’s not like Primeau/Monty/Allen are Stanley Cup calibre goalies, so it wouldn’t be a huge loss. Not like we’re trading away 2014-2015 Price here, you know?

  18. Seb_Nation

Whatever our feeling says, Monty is a UFA at the end of the year so it hinges on him.

  19. gurpg0rk

I would absolutely trade any of our goalies for anything we can get.

  20. ThunderNichirin

I would send them Allen on half of his salary (50% retained by MTL). It’s that or nothing.

As to what that would mean for us, I can enjoy a good old-fashioned battle the number 1 spot between Montembeault and Primeau, even if it means waiting for a while until Fowler or someone else comes up.

  21. FlyInternational648

Trade either….and we’ll throw in Price.

  22. I dont think any of these guys have any value whatsoever and if I were an oilers fan I’d be pretty angry to read this. The way I see it if they want one of them they can have him. Primeau is waiver material and Montembeault was literally waived and is a perennial loser with sky high GAA on every pro team he’s ever been with. That doesnt bother us because we don’t want to win yet but the oilers do so it’s weird they’d want one of them

  23. kingkellam

Bring on the overpay. If, somehow, a GM is truly interested in Primeau, we might as well fire him out the door while we have the opportunity

  24. hockeynoticehockey

Some of the Edmonton blogs were saying “mutiple” first round picks are on the table for a goaltender. Pressure on Holland must be bruuuutal.

Meanwhile KH waits. Edmonton isn’t the only team looking for goaltending.

  25. Of course they are interested in the 1M UFA and 890Kx2 RFA goalies and not in the 3.85Mx2 UFA goalie.

And they want to know if Montreal intends on re-signing Montembeault to a raise that would be too pricey for them.

Habs are in no rush to make a decision on that front and can wait. We’re not the team trying to win now; Oilers are. Pressure’s on them to get themselves out of their hole. It’s their job to make an offer we can’t refuse.
