  1. imagine … our three most skilled on a line together finally.. Johnny – lindholm- Chucky … dube-mony-wonderbread .. backlund third line centre would be nasty for centre depth with Bennet and Simon and Ryan as the forth with levio and looch .. not bad

  2. People don't realize how deep this team really is. I think Simon and Leivo were brilliant pickups because they can both play top-6 roles. Dube, Mangiapane, Bennett are all great in the playoffs. Nordstrom is a great PK replacement. Lots of depth and options at the forward ranks has me excited.

I think the main thing stopping them from being a contender is not having a top-6 proven scorer. Gaudreau and Monahan are good players but they need a little more help in that department. They need someone on the ice that defenders are sprawling in front of to block his shot. Hoffman would be a great fit for example but would be too pricey.

This team is a playoff team for sure but I'm holding back on them being a contender for now.

  3. Johnny wouldn’t work on a checking line. He plays best against skilled players, big players bully him.

  4. Forward lines:

    Tkachuk Lindholm Mangiapane
    Gaudreau Monahan Simon
    Dube Backlund Bennett
    Looch Ryan Leivo

Make those three your top line because they are dynamic players that can play well at both ends. Put Johnny and Mony on the second and only give them offensive draws. Never let them play in their own zone, and all they have to do is score. Less pressure on them. Simon and Leivo are interchangeable, and Nordstrom could possibly slot in time to time.

  5. Ryan Francis shut the hell up Sportsnet pleas fire his ass
13-28-19 is the best first line you make
    88-23-29
    27-11-93
    17/42-10-81 42 is gawdin BTW
    Nordstrom
    Robinson
Imo the defence and goaltending are set and the flames are close to contending what there missing is a ligit 1c which could be lindholm and gaudreau and tkachuk are dynamic together the second line is risky having 2 finishers in mangiapane and monahan and even dube can finish but I have a good feeling about that line the 4th line is a lock I think I don’t think they should move Simon up I think him Ryan and gawdin could be a top 4th line in the nhl there all sneaky players and could be a big energy line when lucic is in there that takes the energy aspect off of Sam Bennett who can finally use all his skill josh leivo is a sniper backlund is a playmaker they will work together great and Bennett can break out of his shell and still be scrappy but also be scoring
45-55 PTS a year on that line. Imo these lines make the most sence for this team to contend

  6. Simon played topline because crosby is so good, it was better to let him play with bottom 6 guys and get the other stars on different ones to have more great lines. Dube-lindholm-simon will not be a 1st line. That‘s not even a 2nd line in quality

  7. Josh Leivo is a good utility player. He's not a true top 6 but can play it and be effective. He looked really good with Horvat and Pearson. I am really mad we let him go.

  8. Atleast the Flames picked up Markstrom over the offseason. Smith and Rettich are both solid back ups but not starters.

  9. I don't think Treliving has a clue on how to fix the top line. He is more concerned about getting an overflow of defencemen. Calgary needs a top line, period, and if the Flames go into the season counting on Johnny and Mony to be their top guys, they'll be in trouble. I like the bottom 6 moves Treliving has done but these are players who can't get more than 30 points in a season. Leivo is injury prone but if he stays healthy, I think he could contribute in a top 6 role.

By puck drop, I would like to see both Monahan and Gaudreau moving on in their careers with different teams. I'm getting tired of seeing Monahan disappear anytime the game gets too rough for him. As well, I'm getting tired of Johnny sulking on the bench anytime he misses a breakaway or some player taps him on his gloves. Calgary needs a dominant first line and these aren't the guys you can win with.

  10. Eric Francis doesn't know how to recognize skill. All he talks about is trading people. Go report on another team

  11. If Wardo wants 4 lines who can all play, I like these combos"

    Gaudreau/Monahan/Leivo
    Chucky/Lidholm/Simon/Nordstrom
    Ryan/Backlund/Mangiapane
    Lucic/Bennett/Dube

  12. I don't know how Francis is still employed by any credible media company. He might be the worst reporter in the NHL.
