Avalanche Grab Solid Road Win Against Seattle, 5-1. Could This Be the Game That Turns Things Around?

It didn’t start out perfect, but as the game between the Colorado Avalanche and Seattle Kraken went on, we saw more and more of what we have come to expect from the Avs.

You could see the confidence grow with every shift, and then as the goals started to come, every player and every line just seemed to start clicking in a way they hadn’t over the past several games.

Many Avalanche players said they needed to find confidence in their game and trust their game and the system. Was this that game? We will see.

  1. They got a bit of a gift on that goal callback. Not saying it wasn't valid, but it wasn't blatant. Still played a very iffy first period, but they look a lot more like their old selves in the last two periods. Jones looked great.

  2. Cal Jones was better then some of the mainstays. I felt the defense had more support and winning puck races, especially in our own zone. Avs had some dump and chase to their top lines, instead of getting stood up at blueline and then going the other way. This helps spread out the way they were gain on top players coming the zone. Got mix up the run and gun style a bit

  3. I don't know. I feel like that was a placation game for Lehkonen. It was good to get a win, but it just felt inauthentic. Like a league concession. Anyway, whatever. Go AVS.

  4. Love the energy for the pod guys. A big win is what everyone needed after the last few games

  5. I’m not ready to say this is a turning point until I see some effort in the next few games. This seems to be a pattern, lose horribly, win decently, lose horribly, look good again etc.
they need consistency. If they can go a few games without letting 4-5+ goals in a night. I’ll start to have more faith, there just seems to be something about this team atm that isn’t fully “clicking”
Shouldn’t need to be embarrassed the game before to come out and put on a good performance the next game, but this seems to be the point we are at

  6. Geeez, what a mind-boggling time for the Avs' fans… A stacked roster, but dispiriting to watch recently… They need to galvanise their minds and start clicking again. Oh, and Ryan Johansen could add a bit of a spring to his step 😉
The Francouz situation – are we fishing for Jake Campbell via third-party, salary retention shenanigans?
Love you guys, keep it up!

  7. Seattle fans are an odd bunch. Did they see what Eberle did to Cogliano? I don’t care what anyone says, but Oleksiak DID give a cute little shove on Lehkonen. They can grow up. Although it’s Seattle, so I’m not expecting much.
Colton’s goal? He knew that was big.
A few days later, and I’m still pissed about MacKinnon’s comments about fans. Play like a $16 million player and shut up.
I find it interesting that Girard was a healthy scratch.

  8. This was 2nd straight game that saw the different lines on the offensive lines. It shows that these changes will stay for as long as then win. The two new defenders Jones and Malinski looked better than Girard and Manson. I would stick with these two new guys until they show errors in their play. In the end, the AVS are on schedule to their 31-30-7 record in the final 68 games left in the season.

  9. To paraphrase Mark Mosher. "I can't believe it". Good effort this game. Thanks to Ross Colton for getting this team going again, hopefully.

  10. Regarding Val, Colton, and Drouin goals and from the last half of the game and hoping they stay lit up, my Band-Maid Sound Check #11 Turn Me On

  11. Just remember folks, this team is still in chemistry building mode and one of those things is learning how to respond to adversity as a unit off the ice. The 6-0 start resulted in many (including myself) having a false sense of invincibility with this group and easy to forget there are a lot of new faces on the ice. Oct and Nov are the feeling out period before the real season starts in Dec. Nice to see the response and especially after a sketchy first period.

  12. Hold on to your horses, this was just one game. I will wait for Saturday, how they will play in Dallas.

  13. Are we physically incapable of scoring first against this team?
Chris, I agree – that frantic shift where they kept it in the zone for a good 1-2 minutes, cycling, keeping it in, and taking shot after shot, seemed to turn the tide. They didn't score, but you could feel something shift, and they absolutely steamrolled the Kraken in shots after that. Georgie didn't have the most stressful night of his life for a change and he did make some great and timely saves.
The new guys all looked good, and I for one am glad to see Drouin finally get a goal. It feels like people are rooting for him to fail and I don't get it.
I'm fine with Kermit taking on that (rather lame) fight and sending a statement even if Oleksiak visibly wanted no part of it. If he's going to be on the roster, let him do what he's there for.
The booing is ridiculous, and you have to assume that someday they'll get over it. If they don't, I hope Makar finds his inner Kadri and just starts eating it up. I am dying to see him drop a hat trick on that team and give the crowd a little how's-your-father wave.

  14. Seattle fans are, from a hockey standpoint, are still immature. Booing a guy who is the Bobby Orr of our generation, is just chilldish.

  15. Best part of the game was that flurry on the O Zone in the second. Total domination from then. Let’s hope it carries forward. Also, insert negative Girard blah blah we can do it without him blah blah comment.

  16. Agreed, showing how fired up Colton is – that raises the bar and the 'want' from his teammates. Becoming a fan of him. Happy for Drouin but far from finding the correlation for him killing it on that line by simply playing with Nate in the past.

  17. How does a team literally go straight from winning 15 road games to being shutout 10 consecutive periods on the road? So glad the Avs finally got some pucks to pour in and for the first time I can recall this season, held a team to under 20 shots!
Sound check for me was another Seattle artist
Can’t Hold Us – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

  18. On the shorty that was called back, Makar slide to break up the 2 on 1 and was out of the play. Mikko coasted back and Ry-Jo didn't stop/stay with his man. Makar can't fan on that pass, but it was the forwards that didn't get back.

  19. Let Seattle boo Makar. If they want to sound like clowns, they can. Right now they are trying to make the Avs their "rival". Its whatever.

  20. I agree, I think the booing is so petty. 3 games in Seattle since then and they were still going strong. Get over it! Look at all the injuries on Avs players by the Kraken since then!

  21. I feel like we got lucky on this one they started playing better towards the end but early played like they have been but im still glad they won i think they have a better team to win the cup this year

  22. I'm curious if Eberle will be booed in Denver moving forward like Makar probably will be in Seattle. Obviously, he didn't play in Denver this year, but he's not a goon either, and I don't see the point in booing him even if his hit was bad.

  23. I was at the game and made a comment that Climate Pledge Arena is like a school on a Sunday, no class. I got some laughs from some of the Seattle fans, but a LOT of dudes were mocking Makar and cheered when they thought he had let in a 2nd goal. When it was called back they all grumbled. When Makar scored they all shut up. With 5 minutes left in the game, they all left. They don't know how NHL hockey works yet.
