I'm old enough to remember when leaving your feet to hit someone was an actual penalty. When checking from behind and/or kneeing was a 10 min game misconduct with ensuing suspension. NHL claims to care about player's safety by trying to take the soul out of the game(fighting is much safer than kneeing/checking from behind btw), but it's clear they are full of it and regressive.
